More Tips & Techniques
arrowUse smaller strips vs larger ones in wrapping objects - around 6" long or less in length.

arrowVary effect of the transparency by using lighter or heavier layers of tape.

arrowTo cover the sticky side out fully, use your hands to find the sticky spots.

arrowAfter you cut the tape off the object using an exacto knife or a scissors & create a seam, take 6" strip & cut to 1/2 the width to cover seam. This will allow for greater flexibility. (Less width=greater flexibility.)
arrowTo build a large geometrical or architectural structure, find a base shape to wrap and use them almost like building blocks and attach them to one another. Once you have a basic structure, layer on the details.

arrowObjects that are sealed on all sides such as cubes and spheres are stronger than tubes or open boxes.

arrowPhotograph against a dark, solid-color background. This will help the details of your sculpture stand out.

What People are Saying:
I was experimenting with a way for my advanced-placement high school students to create sculpture. I found a process at an AP training class that even my beginning sculptors could easily handle.

Clear packing tape is wrapped around an object or person sticky-side up. Then 4 additional layers are added for strength, sticky-side down. This shell is cut off using cast cutting scissors and patched to return to the original shape. The students create the pose and are the sculpture. I found that only 3M tape was strong enough to hold its shape.
