FREEFORM
Learn to build tape sculptures from scratch. It's simple!


  • Use smaller strips vs. larger ones when wrapping objects - less than 6" is best.
  • Control the transparency of your sculpture by using lighter or heavier layers of tape.
  • Cover any layers of tape facing sticky side-up after you've wrapped your sculpture mold.
  • Cut tape off your mold with surgical scissors - they don't scratch.
  • Seal your sculpture with 6-inch strips cut in half lengthwise, so they are half the width. Thin strips add flexibility.
  • Start with a base shape and attach pieces to it to create large geometric and architectural pieces.
  • Make objects stronger by sealing all sides of cubes and spheres.
  • Photograph your sculpture against a dark, solid-color background. It will highlight the sculpture's details.



The panel of judges will grade each entry based on creativity, execution and presentation. The judges will focus on the originality of your idea, the visible quality of your artwork and its construction and how well you present your work in the photo(s) you upload. The top five entries will be put up to a public vote, where people can vote for the sculpture they think should win the Grand Prize, based on creativity and presentation. The two sculptures that earn the most votes will receive new scores from the judges, based on creativity (60%) and presentation (40%), with the top scorer out of the two receiving the Grand Prize.
